fish*tank - a turtlelog

Mmmm.

Fish: Ahhh, this feels nice!

Exams are over - I'm back again! Today's photo is a top view of Fish on his rock. This is his normal basking pose - arms straight out as if he's going to dive. Isn't it cute?

Not much has happened over the past two weeks - Fish still refuses to eat his veggies but continues to adore apples. Sigh. If you have any suggestions how to get veggies into a turtle, please post them in the comment box!

The tank has been cycling for a bit over a month since I bleached it, so I think most of my 'good' bacteria have come back. The water no longer looks cloudy at any rate, and a bit of algae is growing on the rocks and things. I still want a new filter, though, since I think my Duetto is becoming quite inadequate as Fish gets bigger and bigger (and eats more, and consequently poos more). When I finally get that new filter I'm thinking of letting both filters run together for about a month to let the good bacteria transfer over to the new filter - is that a good idea, or should I just stick the old sponge in the new filter for a while? Let me know.

Like most one-year-olds, Fish refuses to eat his vegetables. Here he is amidst a sea of baby bok choy he's trying his best to ignore.

But Moooom, I don't WANT to eat these!

You could almost see the disappointment in his eyes when I tried to hand-feed the veggies - he's used to seeing yummy Reptomin in my fingers!

I took a few pictures of him on his basking rock:

He looks really comfortable in this picture! He had fallen asleep on his basking rock again :)

Zzzzz

I put a 8x magnifying loupe on the camera to get a close up of his head. Doesn't he have nice eyes?

Handsome Fish

This week went well. I noticed there were little white specks in the water that looked like they were going to develop into those worms I had, so I scrubbed the tank (not the accessories) with hot water today. They seem to be gone - or at least they're mostly dead, which is good. I don't want another worm infestation, even if they were eating organic stuff and cleaning the water! I know I wouldn't like to swim in wormy water, though Fish didn't seem to mind.

sleepy Fish

Fish has been blinking sleepily and yawning tonight while basking on his rock - it is adorable! When it comes to relaxation turtles almost look as relaxed as cats do when they're comfy - I want to snuggle up in bed just looking at him.

I didn't get a photo of him yawning today, but here's one from earlier this week (he's yawning underwater for some reason)

Yaaaaaawn

Isn't that cute?

Fish has been doing well this week. It still amazes me how much he basks now compared to before! He must have really hated the river rocks piled in a tub setup - or perhaps he really loves his new plastic rock.

I have exams for the next three weeks, so please don't mind if entries are a bit scarce over the next month!

Feed me! Feed me!

"Feed me NOW! Please! I beg you!"

Fish kneels in protest against the every-other-day feeding schedule. So far I am being quite firm but who can say no to that little face?

As promised here are a lot of photos of Fish!

Hello!

Fish really looks comfortable in this picture, don't you agree? He likes to stick his arms straight out in front of him.

Aaah - this is comfortable!

And here's a front view. Note how his arms are all relaxed and limp - really enjoying himself here!

Ow, I'm getting stiff...

Sometimes he stretches an arm out straight too - he makes me want to stretch out on a warm rock in the sun too!

Here are more pictures of Fish eating. In the below picture he is swallowing a small piece of raw tuna.

And here he is opening his mouth to eat a coat hanger! I love his tongue, it's so small and round. The real purpose of this photo is to show the slight chip in his right upper lip, which is getting better - if you look through the archives you'll see that this was originally a small pink abrasion when I got him last June and gradually healed. A while back it was much bigger but now it is really shrinking - I'm really glad! Now other turtles won't tease him ;) Despite the little chip he is really photogenic...

...but a little camera-shy!

Hope you enjoyed the pictures - I had fun taking them!
