In January 2004, I went on a 6-day holiday to Northeast China. I'd
never seen snow before, and had never experienced subzero temperatures,
so it was quite an exciting journey for me! Through these pages I hope
to share some of the vacation through photographs and my (inadequate)
words.
A bit of background, first. We visited four cities in the
northeastern part of China during the 2004 Lunar New Year holiday, from
January 22 to 27. We flew to Beijing from Hong Kong first, then took
the train up though Shenyang and Changchun to Harbin, stopping for a
few hours to a day or two in each city to see the sights.
Here's a map of the route we took:

(map courtesy of Mapquest - and
please excuse my horrible handwriting!)
22 Jan - Hong Kong to Beijing (plane), Beijing, Beijing to Shenyang (train)
23 Jan - Shenyang, Shenyang to Changchun (train)
24 Jan - Changchun, Changchun to Harbin (train)
25 Jan - Harbin
26 Jan - Harbin, Harbin to Beijing (train)
27 Jan - Beijing, Beijing to Hong Kong (plane)
How
to use the website
Pretty easy, actually - just click 'Next' at the bottom
of the page, and keep going. Or if you'd like to access a particular
date, you can click from the itinerary above,
The pages may take a while to load on a slow connection, though - they
are very, very graphic intensive! Please be patient.
Click any of the photographs to see larger versions - if you see one
that you like and would like an even bigger version, just email me at denise
at idenise dot net.
Special Section!
Apart from the regular travellog, there is a special section of the
site - travel notes - that can only be accessed from this page. I wrote
the travel notes on location and I based some of the travellog off
these reminders, so if you look at both sections it may seem as if I am
repeating myself - sorry about that! Apart from notes, there are also a
couple of little sketches in there to help me remember - nothing much,
but you might be interested.

The dragon in the title graphic is a scanned ink drawing of my own, and
the font used is 'Chinese

The decorative pattern used for the top corners was copied from a
window frame.
The tree background is from a photograph I took on the
train from Harbin to Beijing.
